History & Background
The Coalition of Northern Youth Forum of Nigeria (CNYFN) was conceived out of the need to create a unified, credible, and central coordinating platform for the numerous Northern youth organizations operating across Nigeria.
Prior to its formation, many youth groups pursued noble objectives independently. Notable among them were:
Northern Youth Anti-Corruption Ambassadors, led by Comrade Al-Amin Shehu Pate
Northern Youth Congress of Nigeria, headed by Ambassador Auwalu Mohammed Majiri
Council of Northern Youth Advocates, led by Hon. Mohammed Abdul-Razaq Sani
Alongside several other youth-based associations.
Recognizing the importance of synergy, coordination, and a common voice, leaders of these organizations engaged in extensive consultations. These efforts culminated in the formation of a single umbrella body — The Coalition of Northern Youth Forum of Nigeria (CNYFN) — to harmonize initiatives, pool resources, and strengthen youth advocacy across Northern Nigeria.
Formation and Leadership Evolution
Following a unanimous resolution by the founding organizations, CNYFN was formally established. On 19th October, 2019, the founding congress adopted Ambassador Danladi Iliya as the Acting National President, entrusting him with leadership and institutional direction during the formative years.
This acting leadership period, which lasted six (6) years, focused on organizational consolidation, nationwide consultations, strategic partnerships, and stakeholder engagement.
In line with democratic principles, the Forum convened its highest Congress at Arewa House, Kaduna, on 30th October, 2024. At this historic gathering, Ambassador Danladi Iliya emerged as the First Elected National President of CNYFN through a broad-based consensus of delegates.
The current leadership has served for nearly two (2) years and, in accordance with the organization’s constitution, the Forum is scheduled to convene another Congress in 2028 to determine leadership continuity or transition.
